Most leaks don't announce themselves. They just quietly do damage - soaking into drywall, rotting out framing, and growing mold until the smell finally tips you off. By that point, what started as a small drip has turned into a much bigger repair.
That's exactly the kind of situation we deal with all the time. Cast-iron drain pipes are common in older homes, and they corrode from the inside out over the years. The pipe can look fine on the outside while it's been seeping behind your wall for months. The drywall staining and dark mold growth on the framing you see here tells that whole story.
Once we opened the wall and got eyes on the pipe, the source of the leak was obvious. The cast iron had deteriorated at the base joint - a classic failure point. We cut out the bad section and tied in new pipe using quality no-hub couplings, which create a watertight, flexible connection that holds up long-term. Clean repair, solid connection, problem solved.
This is why leak detection matters. Finding the source isn't always as simple as following a water stain. Sometimes it takes knowing where to look and what to look for. If you've been noticing a musty smell, soft spots in your floor, or discoloration on your walls or ceiling, don't wait it out. The longer a hidden leak sits, the more it costs to fix.
